HIKING

Rental of a gîte entering the Mount Thabor protected area

The Thabor, Cerces, Galibier or Vanoise mountains?

The choice is difficult! However, the mount Thabor protected area stands out for its proximity but above all for its wild and outstanding character. You will discover the green lake there easily accessible with children. The Cerces massif is not very far away. It offers family walks between the Aiguille Noire and the Rochilles lakes which are staged between the Galibier pass valley and the Clarée valley. But also starting from the chalet you will find shaded paths for walks in between 30 minutes and 3 hours. We provide you with IGN maps that will allow you to hike within the 4 massifs that are part of our environment, whether for hikes of 30 minutes, an hour or a day.
  • From Valmeinier, you reach Mount Thabor via the Neuvache valley. This is one of the protected area among 20 in France but also a Natura 2000 protected area whose richness of fauna and flora is remarkable. You will find stone glaciers, numerous wetlands and a petrified pine tree of several thousands of years at more than 2100 meters above sea level.
  • Many lakes and a refuge: "le refuge de terre Rouge" will allow you to make a gastronomic break ! You will also find there many alpine chalets which testify to a time when mountain farming and agriculture were very present until the 60's. Some vestiges of mining areas are also witness to the past which gave its name to Valmeinier village: the mine valley.
  • Southeast of Mont-Thabor, you are on the top of the narrow valley and close to the Italian border. In the Southwest, you can access the Clarée valley to reach Névache and Briançon.

The Cerces massif and the Grand Galibier

The Chemin des Rochilles: one of the most popular hikes starting from the Col du Galibier road starting from Plan Lachat. After an hour's walk, you will reach the first of a series of 3 lakes in a row under the Cerces massif, the last lake being the source of the Clarée. Do not miss. Accessible to small walkers.

Other possible hikes: white lake, Lac des Cerces, the Grand Galibier at more than 3200 meters are part of the possible hikes

La Vanoise Maurienne side

Many walks on the Aussois side, but opposite Valmeinier starting above the village of Beaune you can climb to Perron des Encombres: one of the most unobstructed views of the Alps: many ibex, chamois and Edelweiss ....
